Life’s allegory-Success to play
2009
Photo on wood, acrylic and Indian ink.

This year has been particularly difficult because of the Recession we've all been going through but also, more personally because of the death of my dear grandma or the nearly fatal accident one of my closest friend had.

This is why I’m trying to have the notions of chance and questioning emerge in my work: Will life hand us out the lucky card to reach happiness?

Here, the characters are aspiring to become actors, models or comedians. They’re posing a certain way to maybe become famous one day, or not.
The tarot game is a life allegory for those 5 characters who try out their luck for a better life –only 5 players are allowed in tarot game-
The Polaroid photo mirrors something instantaneous, maybe a fictive happiness.
The rule of the game is critically reviewed here ("la marque", "les encheres", "petit au bou", "l’hetique du jeu" and "l'excuse" written with ink on the characters)

And it strengthens this notion of randomness and leads us to ask ourselves : wouldn’t life simply be a game of chance ?
